چکیده
Abstract Measuring signatures of strong-field quantum electrodynamics (SF-QED) processes in an intense laser field is experimental challenge: it requires detectors to be highly sensitive single electrons and positrons the presence typically very strong x-ray ? -photon background levels. In this paper, we describe a particle detector capable diagnosing leptons from SF-QED interactions discuss level simulations for upcoming Experiment-320 at FACET-II (SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory). The detection system described here combines pixelated scintillation LYSO screens Cherenkov calorimeter. We detail performance using calibration ELBE accelerator. Single 3 GeV are expected produce approximately 537 detectable photons calorimeter channel. This signal compared Monte-Carlo experiment. A signal-to-noise ratio 18 spectral resolution 2% achieved screens.

Strong Field, Noncommutative QED
We review the effects of strong background fields in noncommutative QED. Beginning with the noncommutative Maxwell and Dirac equations, we describe how combined noncommutative and strong field effects modify the propagation of fermions and photons. We extend these studies beyond the case of constant backgrounds by giving a new and revealing interpretation of the photon dispersion relation. Cons...
متن کاملLarge orders in strong-field QED
We address the issue of large-order expansions in strong-field QED. Our approach is based on the one-loop effective action encoded in the associated photon polarisation tensor. We concentrate on the simple case of crossed fields aiming at possible applications of high-power lasers to measure vacuum birefringence. A simple next-to-leading order derivative expansion reveals that the indices of re...
متن کاملNonlinear QED Effects in Strong-Field Magnetohydrodynamics
We examine wave propagation and the formation of shocks in strongly magnetized plasmas by applying a variational technique and the method of characteristics to the coupled magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) and quantum-electrodynamic (QED) equations of motion. In sufficiently strong magnetic fields such as those found near neutron stars, not only is the plasma extremely relativistic but the effects of Q...
متن کاملNoncommutativity vs. Transversality in Qed in a Strong Magnetic Field *
Quantum electrodynamics (QED) in a strong constant magnetic field is investigated from the viewpoint of its connection with noncommutative QED. It turns out that within the lowest Landau level (LLL) approximation the 1-loop contribution of fermions provides an effective action with the noncommutative U(1)NC gauge symmetry. As a result, the Ward-Takahashi identities connected with the initial U(...
متن کاملVacuum refractive indices and helicity flip in strong-field QED
Vacuum birefringence is governed by the amplitude for a photon to flip helicity or polarisation state in an external field. Here we calculate the flip and non-flip amplitudes in arbitrary plane wave backgrounds, along with the induced spacetime-dependent refractive indices of the vacuum. We compare the behaviour of the amplitudes in the low energy and high energy regimes, and analyse the impact...
